The power of the Surface Pen is coming to the Microsoft Surface Duo. Earlier this month the main specifications of the dual-screened device were revealed. It includes a Snapdragon 855, 6 GB of RAM, and storage up to 256 GB. But it’s unique elements of the Surface ecosystem that are being addressed by Microsoft as the release gets closer.

The dual-screen device will include stylus support and runs on Android. Microsoft will have to make some changes to ensure it works as well on the pocketable machine as it does on the Surface Pro.

Microsoft developers are already on work with the Android stack structure. It will ensure the Surface Pen works across two displays seamlessly. The same holds for touch input as well. The goal is to provide a natural experience with minimum lag. Surface Pen is also pressure sensitive. The report claims that it will let you drag operations from one display to another. The Surface Duo also expected to inherit gestures that are native to the Surface line-up. Such as double-clicking the top button for capturing a screenshot and tapping the top button once to launch OneNote. There are some limitations in the Linux kernel, so every feature cannot be port to Android. Even though you will be able to draw on the Surface Duo when it is tilted, it will not have support for tilt value in multi-touch protocol.

Microsoft Surface Duo: Added Dual-Screen Support for the Chromium Emulator

Microsoft expected to launch the Surface Duo later this year. Recently Microsoft added dual-screen support to the Chromium emulator. Now the company is working on another aspect of Android to improve the user experience. The feature primarily aimed at developers in optimizing the websites for devices with multiple screens. It also helps the user to preview their websites on dual-screen hardware in a side-by-side environment. Microsoft adds emulation support for two dual-screen devices—Surface Duo and Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. With this emulation feature, developers and users can preview their websites on a dual-screen device. This will allows the web publisher to optimize their site to run better on new form factors.

Microsoft expected to launch the Surface Duo with Android 10 out of the box. The company has promised future updates including Android 11 for Surface Duo.
