Sony’s Flagship Xperia 1 II Price Confirmed, Launches in July

The Sony Xperia 1 II was announced back in February. Sony was supposed to launch its new flagship Xperia 1 II during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. That never happened as the MWC canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. So Sony soft-launched the phone online, revealing all of its specs, but not its price or date of availability.

Now, the final piece of the puzzle revealed. The phone will arrive on July 24th at the price of $1,199 (roughly ₹91,000) in the US. Pre-orders open up on June 1st. If you buy before June 28th, you’ll get a free pair of Sony WF-1000XM3 noise-canceling wireless earbuds worth $230 (₹17,500). That’s a price that could make it one of the most expensive phones of the year.

The key feature of the Xperia 1 II is the 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a 4K resolution (1644 x 3840). It comes with a super-wide 21:9 aspect ratio. There are stereo speakers at the front. The support for 3.5mm headphones is also available. The Sony Xperia 1 II has Qualcomm’s most powerful chip, the Snapdragon 865, as well as 5G support. It has 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage.

For photography, there’s a triple rear camera setup. That includes a 12-megapixel primary camera along with a 12-megapixel telephoto camera. It has a 3x optical zoom and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera alongside a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor. At the front, you get an 8-megapixel shooter for clicking those selfies. The device backed by a 4000mAh battery, supports fast charging. It has claimed to deliver up to 50% charge in 30 minutes. There’s also a wireless charging feature in Xperia 1 II. Some other features are Dolby Atmos sound, IP68 rating, and Android 10 OS.

The Xperia 1 II is Sony’s first 5G smartphone (sub-6Ghz) for Europe, but it only appears to support LTE bands in the US. However, Sony may soon unveil the Xperia Pro 5G with high-speed mmWave 5G tech that does work in the US. The phone also has a professional broadcast features including an HDMI input port. As mentioned, orders kick off on June 1st with shipping slated to start on July 24th.
